Honoring the Legacy of Joseph P. Spracale
We are deeply saddened to share the passing of Mr. Joseph P. Spracale on Sunday, March 9. His contributions to education and public service have left an enduring mark on the Tempe community, and his legacy will continue to inspire generations to come.
Joe dedicated his life to the betterment of students and educators. An alumnus of Tempe High School, class of 1951, he went on to serve as a teacher and principal in the Tempe Elementary School District, shaping countless lives. From 1972 to 1991, he was the proud principal of McKemy Middle School, fostering a nurturing and inspiring environment. In recognition of his lifelong dedication, the McKemy Academy gym was named in his honor.
Beyond his work in education, Joe was a devoted community leader. He served as a City of Tempe Councilmember and was named the Don Carlos Humanitarian of the Year in 2004 for his outstanding service. As a longtime member and President of the Tempe Impacts Education (TIE) Foundation, he worked tirelessly to support students and educators. For over 30 years, Joe Spracale played a pivotal role in guiding the direction of the TIE Foundation, securing resources that empowered Tempe Elementary students to successfully achieve their goals.
In 2022, Tempe Elementary School District renamed Hudson Elementary School to Joseph P. Spracale Elementary School. It was an honor to have Joe present for the ribbon-cutting ceremony, where he was able to celebrate his extraordinary legacy with the community he loved.
Joe’s passion, dedication, and unwavering commitment to the children and staff of Tempe Elementary School District will always be remembered. His influence will continue to guide students, educators, and community leaders for years to come. We are forever grateful for Joe’s contributions and the positive change he brought to so many lives.
Our deepest condolences are shared with his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him. May we continue to honor his memory by carrying forward the values and dedication he so passionately upheld.
